Seeking to succeed AG George Jepsen, Tong won the May Democratic convention and Primary in August over a strong and exceptional field of candidates. At a post-primary rally of the Democratic slate in Hartford (video) Tong described the slate led by Gubernatorial Nominee Ned Lamont against Trumpism and GOP policies damaging to working and middle class families as “a firewall.”

Tong was born in Connecticut to immigrant parents. He worked in the family restaurant before going on to Brown University and the University of Chicago Law School. In addition to representing his Stamford House district he is an attorney at Finn, Dixon & Herling LLP.

In the Legislature Tong, won legislation to prohibit abusers in domestic violence cases from owning guns and supported changes in foreclosure laws to protect the right of homeowners going through financial crises. For more than a decade in public service, William Tong has taken on powerful forces and beaten them.  As the House Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, William has overall responsibility for Connecticut’s legal system. In that role, William took on the National Rifle Association and won, protecting victims of domestic violence by taking guns away from their abusers.  He took on the big banks and overhauled our state’s foreclosure laws to help Connecticut families stay in their homes during the financial crisis.  According to Tong’s campaign the AG nominee “took on a system of mass incarceration to give thousands who made mistakes a second chance to succeed and he reformed an unjust bail system.  He took on right-wing extremists and helped to pass historic, first-in-the-nation civil rights laws, including laws to protect the LGBTQ community.”

Rep. Tong lives with his wife, Elizabeth, their three children  in Stamford.

Introducing The Democratic Slate: State Treasurer Nominee Shawn Wooden

Campaign 2018

Shawn Wooden, a former President of the Hartford City Council and a partner at the law firm of Day Pitney LLP, Hartford,, specializing in public pension investment practices, is the Democratic nominee for State Treasurer in the November 6th election.

After he securred the nomination winning the August 14th Primary Wooden said: “Tonight’s victory is for every kid who grew up like I did – in a neighborhood where you first have to focus on survival before you can even dream of success”

It’s a victory for everyone who has lost a loved one to gun violence and wants our state to stop investing in gun manufacturers. It’s a victory for every family who wants our state to invest wisely – in education, in infrastructure, in an economy that works for Main Street, not Wall Street. It’s a victory for every worker who deserves the promise of a protected pension.  I believe in economic justice, in fairness and in equality.  I am a proud Democrat who knows that Democratic values and priorities reflected up and down the ballot are the best way forward.

Wooden, the youngest of six children, grew up in Hartford and graduated from Manchester High School as a part of Project Concern, the regional initiative for desegregation in metropolitan Hartford

A graduate of Trinity College where he now serves on the Board of Trustees, Wooden went on to New York University School of Law.  He worked in the AFL-CIO’s Office of Investment in Washington, D.C.  before starting his career at Day Pitney.
