On The Way To November 3rd
McNamara 2015 Kick Off Sunday August 30th At Pulaski Club
The committee for Democratic Mayoral Nominee John McNamara will hold a Campaign Kick Off on Sunday, August 30th, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Pulaski Democratic Club, 89 Grove Street. There is a suggested donation of $20.
McNamara, a member of the Democratic Town Committee since 1986 and its Chairman since 1994, was elected Chair of the Board of Assessment Appeals in 2013 and brings 30 years of experience and community involvement. His public service has included chairing the city Building Commission and a term on the State Marshal Commission in addition to leading city Democrats.
He is a member of the Britain NAACP and a past recipient of its Connie Wilson Collins Award and an incorporator of the Hospital of Central Connecticut. A Rotarian, McNamara is past President of the Rotary Club of Hartford and a Paul Harris Fellow in the international service organization. Professionally, McNamara has been a resource development officer in public and private higher education for more than 25 years and is a delegate and member of the Congress of Connecticut Community Colleges, SEIU, Local 1973.
In July, McNamara accepted the mayoral nomination telling DTC members that his administration will be inclusive and make local government “fair, accountable and responsible not just for some but all New Britain citizens.”
“We need a city government that reflects Democratic values, one that can take advantage of our many assets, the talent of our people, our diversity and our strategic location. We need an administration that can work more effectively with state and local officials to bring and leverage resources for economic development, downtown revitalization and healthy neighborhoods. We need a city government that is not indifferent to income inequality and the many challenges we face as an economically distressed city.”

Reception For Alderman Mike Trueworthy Monday, August 31st
At Large Alderman Mike Trueworthy re-election committee will hold a reception to benefit his campaign on Monday, August 31st at 5:30 p.m. at Max Pizza II, 79 Shuttle Meadow Avenue.
Trueworthy is a former Chairman of Assessment Appeals and Ward 2 City Councillor seeking a new term at large. Last month Trueworthy introduced and won unanimous Council approval for a property tax relief measure extending the benefits for veterans. Last year he authored legislation setting the municipal minimum wage at $10.10 an hour for workers not covered by union contracts.
In winning endorsement to one of five at large seats, Trueworthy told the Democratic Town Committee: “I have continued to fight for our working families. I fought against closing the Human Services Division in City Hall, which provided services to those with disabilities, rental assistance programs, eviction mediation programs, and intervened on behalf of both families and the school board for expulsion mediation programs, which saved the city money. I continue to fight for an increase in the property tax exemptions for veterans, seniors and those with disabilities. These efforts, with the exception of the veterans’ exemption, cannot, by statute, be done without the consent of the Mayor. I believe strongly that we must be smarter about our economic development strategies and budgeting priorities.”
A Monroe Street homeowner, Trueworthy owns TruServe LLC and is a grant writer and consultant. He holds a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and is an OCS graduate, United States Marine Corps. He and his wife, Elena, have two daughters.

End Quote
“The name of the game is to talk to people. If you don’t talk to people, you can’t get started…You knock on twenty doors or so, and twenty guys tell you to go to hell, or that they haven’t got time. But maybe at the fortieth or sixtieth house you find the one guy who is all you need. You’re not going to organize everything; you’re just going to get it started.”
