Soul food and politics brought a steady stream of voters and politicians to the basement of Spottswood AME Zion Church on Saturday, August 16th for the annual Black Democratic Club Soul Food Fest.
In addition to a menu of traditional Southern cuisine Democrats also sang Happy Birthday to DTC leader and activist Alton Brooks who celebrated his 93rd birthday with a cake. He was joined by Cong Elizabeth Esty and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman. A community wide drive is underway to establish a $25,000 scholarship fund at the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain in honor of Mr. Brooks.
