Budget Watch: Council Meetings Ahead For 2014-2015 Budget
The Common Council will hold meetings and review the Mayor’s 2014-2015 Budget Proposal throughout the month of May and adopt a municipal budget for the year beginning July 1, 2014 by June 6th. A public hearing on the municipal budget will be held in May at a date to be announced.
The Common Council is expected to identify spending reductions and economies not proposed by the Mayor nor her Board of Finance and Taxation.
The Mayor has proposed a 4.88 mill rate increase, some departmental budget cuts and the elimination of 28 positions — jobs that are expected to be cut via retirements and leaving unfilled positions vacant. Like last year this year’s budget making will deal with a structural deficit that grew to more than $40 million between 2003 and 2011.
