Here We Go Again…. It’s Time To Get Out The Vote On Tuesday, January 10th for Rick Lopes
Twenty days remain until the special election in the 24th Assembly District to send a new state representative to Hartford. The district includes the following polling places: Vance, New Britain High, Roosevelt and Gaffney in New Britain and one district in Newington.
Rick Lopes, a former alderman and senate legislative aide to Don DeFronzo, faces two opponents in the district that was represented by Tim O’Brien for more than four terms.
“I believe I have the ability, the experience and the trust of the voters in the district to fill Tim O’Brien’s shoes and continue that good work that he has done for the past eight years,” says Lopes. Lopes vows to push for increased education funding to ensure quality education and measure to reduce the use of the regressive property tax to pay for schools. He supports continued state funds for CONNPACE and the dial-a-ride program for older citizens.
“I can hit the ground running at the capitol and make sure New Britain continues to have a strong voice for the city in state government,” states Lopes, who holds a Master of Social Work degree and has owned a small business in the area since 1991.
There are three ways to help Rick Lopes in this abbreviated campaign, the second special election in as many winters for New Britain Democrats.
