What is the GOP’s problem with Social Security? Ask Mark Bernacki and The Republican Candidates This Year
As the lawn signs of New Britain’s GOP candidates pop up around town for the local election, here’s a big reason you won’t find the label “Republican” on any of them; lest they be identified with the greed and community-destroying stances of their “Tea Bag” brethren in Washington.
From Democracy For America:
What is the GOP’s Problem With Social Security? The short answer: It works.
Republicans have spent years demonizing Social Security. They’ve been saying that Social Security is going broke for years, even though that it has paid out every benefit owed to every American for the past 75 years and, according to the Social Security Administration, has the ability to pay out every benefit owed to every American for the next 25 years.
Republicans keep saying that Social Security is bankrupting the country, even though the program is funded by the payroll tax and not the U.S. Treasury. Long story short — Social Security hasn’t added a dime to the deficit.
Republicans like to talk smack about Social Security because they want to scare Americans and turn Social Security into a multi-trillion-dollar taxpayer-funded Wall Street slush fund.
Join Sen. Bernie Sanders on DFA Live this Thursday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time and learn how you can take Republican talking points head-on and make Social Security safe, stable and secure for the next 75 years. More information at www.democracyforamerica.com
