New Britain’s all Democratic state legislative delegation has two new members today as 6th State Senate and 25th State House voters elected Terry Bielinski Gerratana to the upper chamber and Robert Sanchez to the House.
Gerratana, the former State Representative from the old 23rd Assembly District defeated Republican New Britain Mayor Tim Stewart in a contest that was hyped by the GOP as a likely pick up in heavily Democratic New Britain that shares the State Senate district with Berlin and east Farmington.
Unofficial returns from the three communities showed Gerratana outpolling Stewart 4,611 to 4,290. In New Britain Gerratana rang up a 3,161 to 2,510 victory taking 15 of 17 polling places. Sanchez was unopposed by the Republicans.
New Britain Democrats congratulate Terry and Bobby and their campaigns for a hard-earned victory.
